Why knitting? Well, in elementary school I had this teacher, Susan Hughes, who read to us every day before lunch.  The rule was you could either sit still around "the rug" and listen, or you could knit or crochet.  She would take a couple of us at a time, and teach us how.  I figured...COOL.....now I won't have to just sit there......

A couple of funny things happened to me while knitting.  I know it sounds crazy, but I'm serious.  I remember one time I was making a scarf, and I made a mistake after it was probably 18 inches long, and I got really mad, and rather than try to fix it, I ripped the WHOLE THING OUT.  Talk about losing your patience - I guess I was only 8 or 9, but still..........Another time, I sat on a knitting needle.  No kidding - I still have the scar.  I had a little craft bag (I made it myself - it had a skate on the front, and it was the coolest thing ever - I wonder if my Mom kept it somewhere), and I threw it in the back of our Mercury Cougar, with black vinyl seats, and then jumped in right on top!  I screamed, my mom thought I was whining because the seats were hot, I finally showed her the needle stuck in my hamstring, and off to the hospital we drove.  We tried to pull it out, but it really didn't want to come out.  I think the funniest part of the story, though, is my friend Tommy, who refused to ride in the car with us and hold the needle because he thought it was a snake!!
